Internal Moisture E3/AS1 changes for Floor Finishes

As of November 5th the E3/AS1 Alternative Solution Options of the building code come into effect. These changes are around the type of floor finishes we use in kitchens, laundries, bathrooms and toilets (anywhere there is a sanitary fixing/appliance) in new builds and refurbishments that need council consent.

Below is an article that has condensed the sections of E3 that relate to Flooring. While it does not provide specifics in terms finishes and scenarios,  it does provide generic information in which Alternative solutions are made.

As these changes will affect supply/retail and installers, Floor NZ is networking across our supplier/retail/installer sector to work on Alternative solutions as a collaborated industry approach. Along with providing clarity and guidance for our industry, having an industry collaborative approach is also one method that councils use as consideration when consenting Alternative solutions.
