Development of Flooring Trades Skill Standards and Micro Credentials

Waihanga Ara Rau is the organisation responsible for developing and updating construction and infrastructure qualifications that are listed by NZQA. We are excited to be supporting the flooring industry and we are proposing the development of micro credentials that provide introductory skills to scaffold pre-apprentice trainees on their journey towards the Level 4 New Zealand Certificates in flooring trades.

Opportunity to build on training pathways into the flooring trades

We are looking to work with industry representatives to identify skills, knowledge, and capabilities suitable for someone new to the industry who is not yet ready to take on an apprenticeship.  The skills, knowledge and capabilities will be developed into skills standards which collectively will make micro credentials. These skills standards can support the recognition of prior learning and training if a trainee enters into a Level 4 apprenticeship. Skills standards will be replacing NZQA unit standards.

How you can help

We are seeking the input of industry subject matter experts across all flooring trades to help shape the structure of the potential pathways.  The time commitment is attendance at one online meeting on 7th December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Please email qualifications@waihangaararau.nz by 21st November to register your interest in attending. A Teams meeting request will be sent on 23rd November to everyone who has registered their interest in contributing.

There will be further opportunities to contribute to the development of the skills standards in 2023.
